Hi all,
Week 8 has come and gone.... here is your update.
Math:
This week was all about multiplication. I'm not spending a lot of time on basic facts, so if your kiddo struggles please make some time at home to review those facts and increase the recall. I DO focus a lot on strategies to multiply multi-digit factors. The kids have learned the distributive property, the area model, partial products algorithm, and arrays (arrays were review from 3rd grade). All four methods are Texas objectives and tested on the STAAR.
Week 9 we will start the standard algorithm, review the commutative and associative property and do some multiplication word problems.
Science:
This week we focused on engineering a ramp and runway system to test the effect of force on balls of different masses from various positions on a ramp. We also learned how to measure force in Newtons using a spring scale.
Week 9 we will do some research on gravity and friction and look at the relationship they have with mechanical energy.
Also, if you are wondering why I am sending my update during school hours... I am out of school Monday - Wednesday this week chaperoning the 5th grade field trip at Camp Champion! Mrs. Katie Sisk is my sub all three days.
Wish me luck wrangling the 5th graders in the wilderness .
