Hi families,
I don't know about you guys, but I am exhausted. It has been a fabulous week and I am thrilled with all of my new students this year. They are so bright and so eager to learn! What else could a teacher ask for?
In math, we reviewed place value, building on third grade's objectives, but adding the billions period. We reviewed that as we move one place value over to the left, the value becomes 10 times larger and when we move one place value to the right the value becomes 1/10 smaller. We also reviewed standard form, word form and expanded form. Students are expected to comfortably read and write numbers up to the hundred billions. (Just in case you need a review check out these: https://www.khanacademy.org/search?page_search_query=place+value)
In science, we identified misconceptions we have about scientists and watched some great bios on this website: http://pbskids.org/dragonflytv/scientists/ I am sure they would love to explore some more with you. We also reviewed lab tool and their uses.
All in all, it was a LONG but productive week. I think we all should take Monday off ;)
Looking forward to seeing them all again Tuesday morning. Have a wonderful weekend & Labor Day.
Cheers,
