Hooray for the weekend! Your kids have been working SO hard this week and they deserve a break!
Math: STAAR review has been our world. The kids are making huge strides and have become very familiar with STAAR type questions. In class we review the toughest problems, look for "traps" so we don't fall for them, and review strategies for success. Students that hit our goal get to hang out in the "strategy lounge" and those that need support get to work one on one with me to find errors and review what they need. Their confidence is soaring and I am so proud of them all! Next week is STAAR. Tuesday, 4/21 is the math test. The rest of the week we will focus more on science. Science: We built our terrariums this week and planted several different types of producers. We have watered them and seen some germinate and sprout. Children are observing their aquariums as well, looking for growth and change. Next week we will add crickets and ispods to our terrariums. If you have any in your yards, bring them to school and we will use them in our ecocolumns! Have a wonderful weekend! Next week will be wild and crazy with testing schedules, but it will be fun. Hi All,
Last week was our final week of new objectives in Math before the STAAR test, leaving this week wide open for review! Based on the STAAR practices that we have completed the last few weeks, I have pulled some objectives that I think warrant review. Your input is valuable, so please let me know if you noticed something in particular you think is worth reviewing before next Tuesday. Math: Last week we finished measurement with elapsed time and problem solving with money. We also reviewed working with a number line, as well as adding and subtracting decimals, double digit multiplication, and long division. Science: In our study of ecosystems, we created our own aquariums with 5 different living organisms. Students will research the organisms and observe them closely throughout the week. We will also build a terrarium with 6 different living organisms this week. Homework will be more STAAR review and TTM practice. TTM has been going remarkably well and I am thrilled to see students using their points earned for donations to charity. Students are to complete 20 lessons by 4/21. I checked in with every student Friday to let them know their status. Cheers, Raven Reaves |
