It's been a fabulous first week of school. We have accomplished so much, from setting up our supplies, to learning new routines, adjusting to our schedules (especially lunch!) and even some learning.
Math
In math, we reviewed place value, digits, and value. We came up with some motions to define the differences between those terms. Ask your kids to show you! We introduced the millions and billions period and discussed how the value of digit changes from place value to place value.
Science
In science, we discussed our misconceptions of science and scientists. It is amazing how many children picture Einstein when they think of science. We watched several videos of real scientists at work ( Watch them here: http://pbskids.org/dragonflytv/scientists/ ) and redefined what a scientist looks like to us. We will take what we have learned and display it on our bulletin board for Back to School Night. You'll love it.
Homeroom
Next week should be a pretty normal week. I have printed a schedule for my homeroom and it is in their BEE binder. We might have to switch some things around in the near future, so I will email you if I have to make a new schedule. I will also print an updated copy for their BEE Binder. This schedule will help you to decide the best times for doctor's appointments and what not.
Thank you all for being such a great group of parents. I am looking through all the volunteer forms and will be contacting you soon for help.
Please let me know if you ever need anything from me. I see us as a team and communication is key to success.
Have a great weekend!
