Another week down! You may have noticed that we started "taking paws" this week. In other words, we have begun our discipline plan. Our expectations are well established and the kids are ready to take responsibility for their choices! This is one of the reason I love teaching fourth grade. They are so ready for the higher expectations and rise to the occasion with such enthusiasm.
We continued to study place value through games and puzzles. The kids are becoming more proficient at reading numbers up to the hundred billions. Our first test was Friday over place value, base 10 values, writing numbers in standard, word, and expanded forms, and lastly, comparing and sequencing numbers. Test grades will go home in Wednesday folders at the latest.
Next week we review rounding and introduce decimals (tenths and hundredths) to our place value chart.
We talked a lot about lab safety this week and lab safety contracts went home to be signed. I hope you got a chance to review the expectations with your kiddo. Students also started a biography study of a famous scientist. Many kids liked the research so much, they decided to work on it at home over the weekend. Nothing makes a teacher happier than when kids WANT to keep working on an assignment at home! Next week we start inquiry, so if your child hasn't turned in the safety contract yet, get that in by Monday. Without it, they can't participate in our first lab investigation of the year.
Have a wonderful weekend!
