Hi all,
First of all, a huge thank you for everyone you attended our Back to School Night. I hope that you learned a lot. There are two things I forgot to mention.
This week we continued with decimal numbers. We started comparing and ordering decimals and continued distinguishing value from place value (a tough concept!). Ask about the imposters, the judge and jury of comparing decimals! The quiz was on Friday and will be handed back in Wednesday folders.
Next week, we begin operations addition and subtraction. We will start with mental math strategies to increase addition and subtraction fluency, we will study addition word problems and find sums of addends in up to the millions place with and without regrouping.
Science
This week we continued physical properties of matter. We completed an investigation called "It's a Matter of Stuff and Space" where students calculated the mass and volume of three different objects. We also measured the mass of air and I performed a demonstration of density with a coke and diet coke. Ask about which soda was most dense!
Next week we will see what happens when we add energy to matter and discuss changes in states of matter. We will wrap up the unit by having students create a matter brochure.
Homeroom
Next week is Baldwin Spirit Week:
Monday: Wear Red for Respect
Tuesday: Wear Blue for Outstanding
Wednesday: Wear Orange for Accepting
Thursday: Wear Yellow for Responsible
Friday: Wear Purple and Gold for Baldwin Bobcats!
Thanks for another great week! Can you believe that next week is the fifthweek of 4th grade?!? Wow, time flies when you are having fun!

- http://baldwin4thgrade.weebly.com/ <---- This is the grade level website that has TONS of information. You have a scannable on the handout we gave you Thursday. Have a look, especially the FAQ section.
- Xtramath.com has not started yet. You will see it show up on the agenda in the next week or so. I need to get all the kids logged on here at school and show them expectations.
