What a fun week! In math we practiced rounding to the nearest thousand, hundred and ten. We celebrated what we learned Friday on a quiz... grades are already in the grade book. We need some more practice to see more mastery. Some of us are almost there. The quiz also reviewed concepts from the previous two quizzes, namely place value. In science we finished our biography PowerPoints and will be presenting slowly over the course of the next week or so. We also reviewed the scientific method and completed our first science investigation. Ms. Smajstrla is officially teaching reading as of this week. She did an awesome job introducing text features of poetry. The quiz was postponed to Monday so the kids could have a little more time working on posters, studying vocabulary and exploring various poets and poems. In writing, we started exploring the writing process with kernel stories, short 5 sentence story starters that help inspire stories that are on topic and have a definite beginning, middle and end. Ask about the awesome story about the fire drill that we wrote together as a class. Last, but not least, we celebrated the preamble of the US Constitution by "translating " it to kid friendly language. I was so impressed with what our class produced... I hope the related homework assignment brought up some interesting conversation at home.
Highlights for next week:

Science: Ms. Smajstrla's new subject! States of matter
