Well, after such a beautiful 3 day weekend, it's hard to believe I am sitting here looking out the window as a wintery mix of snow and rain fall from the sky. What a perfect example of Texas weather! Here are your updates:
MATH:
This week we completed our unit of algebraic reasoning with strip diagrams. We have reviewed all 4 operations in multi-step word problems. I really have enjoyed seeing the kids take something seemingly abstract and make it concrete by organizing the data into the diagram. This has enabled them to create equations with variables to represent the missing information much more confidently. That's pre-algebra folks! I have postponed the test to Monday officially so we can spend today reviewing and grading daily assignments. We had no math class yesterday due to the field trip.
Next week we will continue with algebraic reasoning but this time, it is embedded in input/output tables.
SCIENCE:
We discussed water distribution and the location of freshwater this week. We have fallen behind with the science fair presentations, the field trip, and our special guest speaker from Keep Austin Beautiful, so the water cycle test will also be postponed to next week, likely Tuesday.
Next week, we talk about severe weather and wrap up this unit of study.
Miss Adrienne from Keep Austin Beautiful is back this week with a lesson on aquifers and soil!
Don't forget the extra credit opportunity with Keep Austin Beautiful this Friday! Information can be found here.
