It's been a busy week of benchmark testing. I have squeezed in lessons and learning whenever there was time! I look forward to reviewing the benchmark scores and celebrating with our students their progress in 4th grade!
Math:
This week we are getting as much done with fractions as we can before the math benchmark next Wednesday, Dec. 9. This week we focused on generating equivalent fractions and comparing fractions. The biggest skill we have learned and practiced this week is finding common denominators. The kids improved skills in multiplication certainly make this process a lot easier! Like I mentioned in last week's update, the kids have been assigned a benchmark review for homework. About 50% of the students have completed it early and have already begun corrections. Please let me know if you need any support. TTM is another great resource for reviewing.
Next week: We will investigate the relationship between fractions and decimals and convert mixed numbers to improper fractions. The benchmark is Wednesday! After Wednesday, we'll take a little math break and focus on science for a while.
Science:
Monday we took the science benchmark. That's about it for science this week. Wednesday and Friday we had the writing and reading benchmark and whatever class time we had available, we worked on math.
Next week: After the Math benchmark, Wednesday, we will have some fun science investigations on condensation and evaporation in the water cycle.
Next Thursday is our first grade level field trip! Information went home in Wednesday folders. Kids need to bring a lunch and a big snack. We also would love to show off our awesome grade level shirts, so be sure to have your kids wear them next Thursday.
Lastly, the kids had a great time shopping at 2nd grade's Market Day this Thursday. Who knows... your little elf may have found a nice gift for you!
Have a wonderful weekend! Just 2 weeks until a well deserved break!
