We are excited to get off to a great start in 2014! We will be jumping into studying Poetry in Language Arts. We focus on figurative language (imagery, metaphors, similes, idioms, onomatopoeia, alliteration, hyperbole, & personification) as well as rhyme scheme, rhythm, theme, message, etc.
In Math we are starting to looking at bar graphs and combinations & finishing up long division. An example of a combination is: Mrs. Quiroz has 4 types of ice cream, and 3 types of toppings. How many combinations of 1 ice cream with 1 topping could she make?
In Science we are wrapping up weather and space. Then, students will be learning about fast changes and slow changes on the Earth’s surface: weathering, and erosion.
We are working to reschedule the Aquarena Springs field trip. At this time, we are hoping to go in late February. We will be asking for chaperones and blankets then.
We will not have school on January 20th, in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Report cards will go home on January 8th.
We will be collecting 2 Liter Soda Bottles to make eco-columns in the spring in science. Please send those in, washed out, with your child. (Thank you!!)
School starts back up on Tuesday, January 7th. We are looking forward to seeing you then!
